Credit / Destruction Process for Draught Beer in Cellars

We hope you are all keeping safe and well. The return of our hospitality trade is inching closer and closer, with whispers of 4th July being the re-launch date – Fingers crossed!


With the above in mind, we now have the solution to ALL OPENED and UNOPENED draught products in your cellars. We are pleased to confirm that the British Beer and Pub association, the leading trade association representing our industry, has now launched a cross industry platform to enable spoilt beer to be safely destroyed and credited in pubs.


Access to the above platform can be gained through We highly recommend you register onto this website at your soonest opportunity, with initial demand likely to be very high. Once registration is complete and your profile is up and running, you can follow guidance and instruction to seek permission from your beer suppliers to destroy their beer. Please provide and upload all information required (video and photograph) as accurately as possible, as this will help to speed up the process of a credit back to yourselves.   Please note, the form will ask you to input a supplier code, if you click into the drop down menu you will be able to find us there.


Brewers who are currently signed up to this scheme are the following; with many more expected to sign up in the coming weeks;

  • Heineken
  • Carlsberg
  • Molson Coors
  • Budweiser Brewing Group
  • Marstons
  • Asahi


To comply with HMRC guidance, once you have provided the information, this will then be checked against the brewers data of your purchases. Once the brewers are satisfied with your claim, you will then be given authorisation to dispose of the beer on site. You will also be responsible to comply again with HMRC guidelines, in the disposal of the beer and do so in a safe and environmentally friendly manner.


It is vitally important that you do not dispose of any draught beer and cider without the permission of each brewer you are claiming from. No credit will be given for beer and cider that has been disposed of without permission.


Once you have completed your claim online, the process will be as follows;


  • The British Beer and Pub Association will send out your claims to each individual brewer you are claiming off.
  • Upon approval of un-broached containers, the brewer will raise a full credit.
  • Upon approval of broached containers, the brewer will raise a partial credit for the duty element on the amount left in the container.
  • This credit will then be passed onto ourselves (The Beer Trading Company) your route to market.
  • We will then in turn pass on this credit.

Once again, in these very difficult times, we hope you are all well.


At Beer Trading, we are a family and this family extends to all our customers as well. With this in mind, we wanted to give you an update as to what we are working on to support you in the best way possible in these extraordinary times.


Given the government announcement last week to close all pubs with immediate effect, we understand you will have concerns regarding stock currently on site and returning it to us.  We are working at pace, every day with all major brewers and brands to establish a consistent, collaborative approach to returns and what this will mean for you and your business.  Please bear with us whilst we do this, there are many issues to consider currently and we realise this is important to you. We will aim to communicate to you again as soon as we can with more clarity.


We are hoping that a positive response prevails from all our brewer and brand partners but please understand that this is an international and unprecedented situation. We must all stick together and by doing this, we will find the best way of coming out the other side.


In preparation for any uplifts can I please ask that you confirm back via your Beer Trading representative your current un-opened KEG and CASK stock levels with their individual "Best Before End Dates”

In these very difficult times, we hope you are well.


At the Beer Trading Company, the safety and well-being of our employees and all of our customers, is always our top priority. We recognise the important role we play in providing a continued and excellent service to our “on-trade” customers.


We are actively monitoring the COVID 19 situation and are taking the necessary steps to help keep our team and customers alike, safe.


As our employees interact with customers and the general public, we have taken steps to limit exposure to the virus based on the government guidelines. Your local representative can still be contacted on the usual telephone number and email address and will be happy to assist as normal with any requests you require.


The telesales office team are still available for you to place daily orders and to assist you with any other general enquiries.


Placing orders will continue as normal, at present, with deliveries being offered Monday through to Saturday. Same day orders need to be placed before 11am for guaranteed delivery.


We will keep you informed with regular updates if any national decisions are made to restrict the supply to our customers, but for the time being we will continue to support our customers with the high level of service we at the Beer Trading Company pride ourselves on.  We know how important it is to stick together during these uncertain and difficult times.
